A Rainy October Engagement Session | Victoria, B.C.

We didn't let the rain stop us.

S & T traveled from Seattle for their engagement session - which made me feel super cool, I will say. Of course it had been sunny the day before and it was scheduled to be sunny the next day. But, as fate would have it we were faced with the rain! I brought a few clear umbrellas from home and thought, "okay, let's just lean into this experience. If they are willing to get wet, I am willing to as well".

I called them before their session to double check if they wanted to proceed with their session outdoors. I told them I had contacted a local cafe to secure a back-up plan just in case. Picture this: cozying up next to each other in a booth while holding warm hot cocoa or coffee. Nonetheless, we had some options. They decided to lean into the rainy experience and we would go from there.

I sent them my favourite meeting point in Beacon Hill Park and met them there. When I arrived they were holding huge green umbrellas that were provide to them by the hotel they were staying at. I said "let's ditch those ones in my trunk and grab the clear ones I brought!". We then chatted and wandered about while I stopped to photograph them in areas that inspired me.

We then made our way to the Stone Bridge because I knew it would be the perfect backdrop for romantic rainy love story photos. It was truly giving "The Notebook" vibes. All we needed was a little canoe, but I will let that part go. If you're a bird, I'm a bird baby.

By the end of the session, they were soaked and I was soaked despite having had worn my super cool umbrella hat. I can't wait to photograph their wedding next year - it sounds like it's going to be such a riot (I have never documented the Hora, but I am about to).
